Educational/Teaching Philosophy & Method

Led by FCC Educator Lissette Medina, Liss Friendship Garden practices the philosophy of Reggio Emilia and the emerging curriculum, since Lisette believes that children should learn at their own pace, being leaders of their own learning. This approach allows each child to explore, discover and develop in a unique way, fostering social, emotional and cognitive skills.

I am very excited to be able to work with the children and be a part of their growth and achievements. My approach will always be to see each child as a unique individual, providing them with the necessary support so that they feel safe and motivated to achieve their goals. I am committed to creating a learning environment full of love, respect and fun, where every child can explore and learn in a meaningful way.”

Liss Friendship Garden operates out of Nurtury’s Family Child Care (FCC) Incubator. Learn more about Lissette’s experience and background below:

I have 4 years of experience working in early education centers. During this time, I have gained a deep understanding of the needs and development of children in their early stages of life, allowing me to create learning environments that promote both academic and emotional growth.

My early education experience began over 10 years ago as a nanny, providing care and educational activities for young children. Over the years, I volunteered at my church, where I created and led activities and lessons for children. After this experience, I began working as a teacher’s assistant, and progressed to infant and toddler teacher, and preschool teacher. These experiences have allowed me to work with children of various ages and develop a wide range of skills to support their learning and growth at different stages of their development.

The main barriers that have prevented me from opening my own Family Child Care in my home have been the lack of financial resources to acquire a suitable home where I could offer the service. Additionally, I have faced the difficulty of finding a place where the owners would allow me to operate a child care business, which is essential to comply with local regulations and create a safe environment for children.

Being able to open my own business means a dream come true. It is the opportunity to offer a service that I am deeply passionate about providing and that will give me the possibility of being financially independent, helping my family and growing in the business field.
